Anyone got any tips for growing Mooli? I remember being told many years ago that they are grown in drainpipes in Japan, i would have thought any deep stone free container but am just guessing.

I have some seeds to try this year but I don't intend giving them any special growing medium.......just ordinary garden soil!
I suppose you're right though, with them having a long tapering root a deep sandy soil would be ideal.

Actually, I might try growing them in the potato bags after the Swifts have finished

I planted mine a bit late last year, in October, but they grew to a decent size. Despite the clay soil I had roots around 8-10 inches long and 1.5 inches across. As I was the only one eating them to start with, that was fine. The cabbage fly did find them though, so the tops of some roots were spoiled, but they didn't get the whole radish

Now a little Shrinking Violet.
Mooli are a winter radish and should not be sown to soon or they will bolt before forming the root. June is plenty early enough for sowing and sow thinly in situe. Good luck with them.
That is why I'd delayed with mine last year, but I'd intended Aug, and forgot.
