  • Tasty tomato

A loooooooooong time ago when I was young , I bought some tomatos from a man who had grown too many and was selling them at his gate. They were the best tasting I have ever had . They had a salty taste . Unfortunately he is long gone so I can't ask him what the were . They were slightly larger than a cherry but not as big as a salad they were very red in colour . Anyone got any idea as I would love to grow some . I know they are not Gardeners delight or alicante or moneymaker as I grow them . Thank you .

It has two chances , up or down.

If they were a bit smaller than standard, and he grew them outside, they could have been Red Alert. Fantastic flavoured outdoor bush tom.

I bought a plant in a garden centre last year. Saved seed from that! But they are fairly widely available I think.

Could they have been Bloody Butcher? They are Very Red, and are sized somewhere between cherry & salad tomato (or at least mine were last year)

http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk/seeds/pages/veg5.htm Scroll down the page and you'll come to them, there's a pic of one cut in half.

I always find Amateur has a slight salt taste. They are bush types and can be grown outside and the size sounds right.

Blimey , I will have to make a lot of space to grow that lot . I will have a look for the seeds and try a couple this year and a couple next year till I find it . As I say the thing about them was the salty taste it was lovely . Thank you for all your answers .
