Back to the potato varieties.....
We grew Duke of York which had done really well at home for us and Arran Pilot this year. Last year it was Claire (now Anoe) and Milva.
The earlies did reasonably well but not as well as the ones we grew last year so it's back to the Anoe and Milva for earlies. I've given up on trying to get my hands on International Kidney seed to try and replicate the spuds of home.
For maincrops we grew Desiree which did really well and cook up lovely. We had a really good crop. Last year we grew Arran Victory, which I have told Mr E we will be growing again next year cos they were just the biz and Valor which were ok. Mr E would like to try Maris Piper or King Edwards. The Edwards don't seem to do so well in the soil on our site so will probably give those a miss.
In summary I will be telling Mr E to plant* () Anoe and Milva, Desiree and Arran Victory and some Maris Piper as a trial.
*(He's very good at digging and planting providing he's given clear instructions)Bright Blessings

I grew Sharpes Express and Cara. They both produced good crops but the Sharpes Express were disappointingly small although plentiful. The Cara were great. The previous year i grew British queens and was well pleased with them, the only drawback is, they are no good for boiling as they just go mushy.
Will grow Cara again but will be looking around for something different next year.

And your hands begin to harden.

Winston was yummy - my mum isn't a fan of jacket potatoes, but we did Winston in the micro - perfection. Didn't buy this year though.
Edzell Blue was yummy for mash.
Pink Fir Apple are interesting. This is where you find another use for old toothbrushes.
Waiting for Alan Romans guide to spuds to read before I decide what I fancy. Will go to Potato Day at Ryton in January. I don't want to plant a lot of the same variety - me more pick and mix! 3 at most of a variety!

There is a maincrop cross between Desiree & Pink Fir Apple out this year (forgot its name). OH likes desiree and I like PFA (not glue!) Could be a key contender for our household! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Kind of new to potato growing but grew Sante and Cara this year. Both had a good yield but there was little flavour in the Sante and I think they must have been too close together as they were really small too.
Cara were much better size and flavour and would grow them again. They take a long time to grow though.
