Rocket doesn't do well for me in tubs either GP. Try Swift instead, it's better suited to tubs & the foiliage isn't as tall either.

I grew Bingjt this year and had a huge crop and they are keeping well. A very floury spud though. Think I will go back to Charlotte next year. I also grew Ratte and was dissapointed. They were supposed to be the creme de la creme but we thought that they were rather ordinary Do make rather good saute potatoes though. Won't be growing them again! I hope to find some earlies for next season, when I can sort out the French varitiesGardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poet

I had two trial packs lady christl very nice tasty ultra early, and orla good cropper very nice white spud that cooks well but tastes of nothing, Vales Emerald another very tasty good cropper, Anya, a pink fir apple x desire salad potato as scrummy as the pink fir without the knobbly bits, Harlequin a Charlotte x not quite as tasty as the pure charlotte but I will give them another go this year, Foremost are a very tasty early and they keep well still eating them at the moment, main crop maris piper was very disapointing this year the problem was they went in late and the very dry weather but again will give them another go this year.

Hello PaulW, thank you for your potato recommendations. I grow mine in buckets. I agree with you that pink fir apple is a scrummy potatoe. Anya is very good , but I don't think quite as good. Yes, Charlotte is a great potato. I don't like Maris Piper at all. I find it crops well but tastes of nothing and boils to mush. Only suitable for mass production and big profits for the supermarkets. I found Rooster did well - 6ibs from a bucket! And a great roasting potato. Hope you get a great crop from whatever you grow next year.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Had the first taste of my Rooster crop last night, superlative roast potatoes, fluffy in the middle and lovely and crisp on the outside. I'll definitely have these again next year. Sounds like Arran Pilot did well for you out there too, I'm hopefully going to try it next year. Can anyone recommend a tasty early that's scab-resistant, got a fair bit of scab of my Red Duke.
