  • Buying Garlic sprouted plants

    Hi all,

Just recently got a wee bit of land and want to try some garlic for the first time this year. I have found garli sprout plants that were planted last year and will be sent bare root. However I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get some elephant garlic that had been sprouted/planted when it was cold ?

I understand that you need to plant the cloves in teh winter and thought by planting already sprouting ones I will be ok.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance

Blimey, you hear something new everyday.
    Where did you see these??

I can understand why you want to grow some garlic DrDoug but I think I would be patient and wait until Oct/Nov and plant some cloves then.
I've never heard of buying it bare rooted to plant now.
As an aside the elephant garlic I bought and planted months ago hasn't shown face yet.
My other garlic is doing just fine.

I think shop bought garlic can be stuck in the ground at any time of the year with varying results!

Saw them on flee bay and it sounds like a good idea to me as I am only new to this.

Have ordered 15 and hopefully the will come and I will plant them soon after.

Fingers crossed they will grow and even better split and form nice bulbs.

If anyone has any spare elephant garlic plants I woudl love to buy some of these also.

          Thanks
