    Thanks for the help VMD.
I have some Mammoth onions, if i grow some in the greenhouse how would the summer temps in there affect them?

The heat in the greenhouse shouldn't bother them too much as long as you can keep the temperature below 85f otherwise they'll stop growing above that.

I grow mine in a polytunnel and the summer heat is a big problem,I've had it above 100f on really hot days, but all you can do is open all doors and vents etc.

As for what happens to them,I just eat them.
I don't use anything nasty regarding pesticides.(let's face it you can't get any these days anyway!!).
You want to see the size of the onion rings you can make from a five pounder.
Please have a look at my Veg Growing Diary.

      Thanks.

Mammoth onions reach 5-6lb outdoors, in an indifferent summer, without any special TLC.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

We'd love to grow some giant onions, but with my accident over winter we never got the seeds sown. And the price for the ready grown plants was a bit beyond my pocket! But hopefully next year we'll have another go at it, as my 12 year old son is fascinated with the idea! He quite fancies giant cabbages too But if it keeps his interest in growing, i might just find space for him to have a go at it.

I'm growing robinsons mammoth onions this year but no special treatment for mine - I just bung em in the ground and let them get on with it, didn't do too badly last time but certainly not competition winners

Actually, if you've got a shed load of chutney to make, like wot Wellie always has, to have bl@@dy big onions to hand in the kitchen is great. And this year I shall have!

You're doing great there with your onions - I'm hugely impressed. X.
