Experience with Alfalfa overwinter in clay soil?

Has any got any experience with growing alfalfa overwinter in clay soil? I see from the green manure websites it doesn't like "wet soil". I would like to grow it for the amount of compost I could create from it and supress any couch grass. The other half of the plot (100 sqm) would halved between winter tares and forage pea.

I've never grown Alfalfa on my clay soil, but winter Tares don't do well on it. Field beans - basically a broad bean - do better, fix nitrogen and make a massive amount, of top growth though

Alfalfa does well on my sandy soil.
However, like most green manures I've tried, it;s really slow growing over autumn and winter (when you want it to be covering the ground) but takes off like a rocket in April.

I now grow limnanthes as my green manure - it overwinters well, supresses weeds and is easy to hoe off for composting.
