I've done something stupid!!!

A few weeks ago i re potted tumbling toms and cherry toms into bigger pots..... what i didn't do is LABEL!

Can anyone tell me if there is a noticable difference in these plants?

got hanging baskets for the tumblers and need to know which ones to put in when the time comes!!

Err, I did the same, although some of mine were labelled so I 'think' I have sorted them out! The tumbling toms are lower and more sprawling looking from my other plants which seem to be growing more upright. I suppose, if you pot them on again into larger pots and then keep an eye to what habit they wish to grow in?

I expect someone might have a more technical solution.

Cant help. I am currently trying to work out which are french dwarf beans and which are giant 6ft purple podded ones! Oh and there are some peas in there as well. May have to grow them all up tall wigwams to work it out

I had this with peas, so I planted them together [1 dwarf and 1 tall]....

Can't help on the tomato front - sorry. Try googling the 2 different types, the leaves might be different.

at the mo, the leaves look exactly the same.......... will just have to grow them all in pots this year and make sure i LABEL next year!! i'm sure i can find something else for the baskets...... unless...... do u think its too late to sow some more tumblers?

ive noticed purple queen (purple podded dwarf french bean) have a purple tinted stem even in the seedlings but the green dwarf beans are just plain green, perhaps your purple variety might have the purple stem too.

Haven't a clue, Veggielover. But if it's any consolation I do this all the time. My favourite is to sow half a cell tray with one type of cabbage (or whatever) and the other half with a different type, then move the tray about so often I'm clueless as to which half is which

I did the same thing last year, although it was because "someone" mixed up the labels on my tomatoes. It became clear after a while that some were growing straight up and some were sprawling and getting ready to tumble.

FionaH, I noticed with my beans that the climbers grew much bigger much quicker than the dwarfs - I sowed some borlotti beans a few weeks ago in the same tray as some dwarf beans and the dwarf beans were very soon living up to their name! It should be easy to tell peas from beans as the leaves are very different. Good luck!

heh I was going to post and ask the same question as I've done exactly the same.

The tumbling ones are sort of "bushier" but I could be wrong as mine are only Sweet Million F1. Can't start pinching out side shoots yet until I'm sure, unless someone can tell me it's ok to pinch them out regardless of bushy or straight ones?

Will I be able to tell the difference when they flower??

I made the same mistake last year now i LABEL EVERYTHING!!! even put the date sown on it. This way you know which seeds are better than others. It deffo makes sense to label every thing.

Thanks for that. I am trying more to work out which ones are the small ones and which ones are the 6ft rampant beggers. Unfortunately both of these are purple podded Oh well may just have ikkle peas growing up big wigwams lol

Glad to hear peas and beans have different leaves. As a complete newbie I feel a bit of googling for images coming on Next time I will label properly

Hi I have a tumbling plant next to the taller ones in my greenhouse presently. When they get big enough the difference is spottable.

The tumblers branch quickly and put out flowers much lower down - the others tend to grow longer before they attempt to flower.

If you have both I think you will see it soon. However why no pop down to the local garden centre and hold one against the other from their stock - you will see what I mean better that way [unless their toms are still tiny].

I work in a garden centre and can just about tell the difference between the tumblers and the cherrys when they're about 4/5" tall. The tumblers just look like weaker plants and don't seem to grow whereas the normal cherry ones tend to get taller quite quickly and generally look healthier plants. You should be able to tell in a week or two (just in time for planting out!)

Just a quick aside

I have labelled , but appear to have the wrong plants from seed.....can anyone tell me if the leaves on Suttons "Tumbling Toms" should look like cabbage/brassica's when they are 3 inch high? I am sure I labelled the correct pots, but they look very similar to my Primo cabbages growing next to them.
