I bought one of the black stacking boxes from Tesco for just under £2 with the intention of putting my bush courgette in it, I think it is 27ltrs capacity, would that be big enough?

Will a 27ltr tub be ok for a bush courgette?

I use old 25 litre plastic oil drums from work to grow all my courgettes in. As long as you water every other day and feed regularly they work perfectly. I also use them to grow tomatoes and peppers outside.
Usually we have a good dozen courgettes on the go and find them very easy to manage in pots.

I've got a pumpkin in a pot at the moment, (this thread is great, I now know I'll be needing a much bigger pot- which means buying things ) what is the advantage of growing in pots versus in the ground? I like the idea, but it's good to know what I'm getting into. The Impulsive Gardener

Do I start feeding when I see flowers or before?
Aren't courgette stems weird, I accidentally broke one and so took it off the plant, it's as if they seem to be hollow, as if they are full of air.Hi. Hi. We've removed your signature. If you have any issues with this, please contact one of the Moderators.

It depends on the variety as well. For example, last year I grew Gold Rush (very compact for a courgette plant) and All Green Bush (easily twice the size) - the Gold Rush were quite happy in buckets, the All Green Bush needed a much larger container, but I grew them happily enough in 26l tubs so your container would be about right for that variety.
Llamas - there is a container growing thread in the stickies at the top of the forum. Different people have different reasons for using containers - some out of necessity (no ground to grow in) and some for preference e.g. aesthetics, to control the conditions of the soil, so the plant can be sited somewhere convenient e.g. on the patio! or for all sorts of reasons. Some of the problems / downsides will be that because the amount of soil available to the plant is limited it will need watering / feeding more than a plant grown in the ground, and of course containers can be expensive to fill if you have to buy in compost. I would get your pumpkin in the ground if you can (once hardened off etc), it will thank you for it!Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
