I'm growing various things from seed for the first time this year - cherry & ordinary tomatoes, jalapenos and dill (plus some Virginian stock, night scented stock & phlox) and I'm getting impatient! I planted them all about 4 weeks ago and put them in one of those plastic covered shelf units that claims to be like a greenhouse, but apart from the dill none of them are showing any signs of life. Do they normally take this long? Should I have kept them indoors?

The chillis and toms will want to be warmer than just outside. Bring them in, mine were in a coldframe and doing nothing for 2 weeks. I put them in a heated propogator and they were up within a few days. The flowers may be the same (but I don't really know!).Tx -
My blinking cherry tomatoes are taking their sweet time too! Mind, it's only been two weeks....

meditate and practice the art of patience
my parsnips took over 2 months to come through, other bits have taken almost as long. Try germinating the toms and chillies indoors to kickstart them...

Tootles is right - they need more heat to germinate. A warm sunny windowsill or a heated propagator.
