  • Two round courgettes.
    1/2 kilo of mangetout
    Two onions
A couple of kilos of new spuds

(and it all went to the lady who was looking after the dog - I can't believe I gave her my first courgettes of the season.)

    • Hello everybody

Today I harvested lots of yummy Strawberries again! (need more uses for them though, done a strawberyy pavlova and homemade strawberry jelly, any other ideas?)

Two big handfulls of rocket for my sons sandwiches and a salad for tea.

Rhubarb, have made into stuff for a crumble and frozen it until we fancy it.

      Chives and parsley for tea

And a baby carrott, just wanted to find out how they were getting on really...they are doing fine, couple more weeks and they'll be ripe. Yum!

Oh, and 3 spring onions to have with our dinner.

I love free food from the garden!

      • New potatoes, spring onions, lettuce and baby carrots and one pound of gooseberries. No, i'm not going to eat them all at once. The gooseberries will probably end up in jam. The carrots are growing in a deep tub and much better than the ones grown outside as my soil is basically boulder clay and needs a lot of work.

                        • About 9 Golden Ball & Purple Top Turnips, Chinese Kale (not sure if this was correct or not as plants are still small but were sprouting broccolli type flowers so i cut these bits off!), a small handfull of round carrots - marble sized, a very small sunburst squash, and a pot full of Vivaldi Potatoes. For tea tonight we will be having Somerset Pork with some of all the above!!

                          • Strawberries and scallions, have been harvesting both for the past week or two.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

OT but - I read somewhere that the carrot fly can't fly more than about 12" above the ground - so we grow carrots in wooden troughs which are on stilts! OH built a frame which is really wobbly but seems to work - so each year (this is year 2!) the carrots go in the troughs with spring onions

Worked last year to keep the carrot fly away - but lets see this year!!

                              Harvesting
                              a) turnips Tokyo Cross - but sadly been eaten (cabbage root fly suggested) so pulled but not eaten
                              b) mimi and anya potatoes (mimi disappointing - a whole potato bag for one meal of marble potatoes - not getting those again)
                              c) salad leaves (misticanza and french blend good, though rocket is bolting)
                              d) sugar snaps (for dinner)
                              e) yellow mange tout - so cute! Deep purple flowers, and loads and loads of mange-tout going up the frame - over 7 ft high right now... Shame they don't taste amazing - they are fine, just no different from supermarket ones

Courgettes not yet there - nearly, I keep looking!
