  • First ever cauliflower.

Having met Bearded bloke in my garden yesterday and discussed the difficulty of producing a decent cauliflower, on my morning walk around this morning I found this......

I seem to remember him saying something about giving me £50 if I could ever grow one but it could have been the beer he kept pouring for me.

        • Even more strawberries, and a disappointingly small pot of Red Duke of York.

Having a poor harvest from these so I probably won't bother with them again next year.

OOOO that hurt Dorothy, that's the very reason I left all the leaves and stalk on it, they don't sell em like that in supermarkets or green grocers.

                          • I'm jealous, Bill. I don't grow caulis as it I do manage to get them right like you have, they are all ready at the same time.

I brought home from the Hill tonight half a dozen lady cristl spuds from one plant, and 3 and a bit pounds of raspberries.

Hazel, I had three just burst apart before this one, I think maybe the rain helped it. Not worth the room they are planted on in my opinion. Having said that we ate it tonight and it was awesome.

I would swap the cauliflower for those raspberries any day.

I wish we could get some sort of deal worked out. I love caulis! I ate so many rasps at the plot this evening (and still bought home 3 or so lbs) that my mate in the pub tonight reckoned that it would do something unpleasant to my system.

I'm a bit hopeless at brassicas as I've got bored of seed sowing by the time they should be sown, and the seedling get all out of control before I have space to fit them in.

I thought I had a solution this year by buying four Brussels sprouts plants, and five de nero kale from the Hill plant sale - but the slugs did for the sprout plants overnight, and only 3 of the five kale live to tell the tale.
