    Sweet peas! Still going!

A small bouquet, but still scented and pristine condition.

[Never had them flower this late before... Can't explain it.]

Well done, KoA! My ones gave up the ghost at the beginning of September, collapsing under the weight of mildew. That'll teach me to skimp on soil preparation.

No garden should be without them.

              • Talking about Sweet Peas, I pulled mine up some time ago, but when I was weeding the other day, I found a lot have already 'self seeded' and are about 6/8 inches high. And also Cosmos has self seeded and grown to a height of 12inches and actually in flower! Mad, but lovely.

                • More sweet peas!

The funny thing is I didn't do any soil preparation, I didn't feed them and now I'm metered up I decided to reduce to watering on alternate days. Yet they started flowering earlier than ever, they're flowering later than ever and a record number of blooms (this on top of a record year last year) ... Go figure!

That's a feather in your cap! I probably have an advantage on you being much further south, but sweet peas in Ilkley in October?! Who'd have thought it!

                            • Came home from my friend's garden today with half a carrier bag full of tomatoes, a green pepper, a kohl rabi, a few runner beans, some spring onions and 10 calabrese spears. Add to that yet more tomatoes from my own garden and a large courgette as well as the last 2 apples from my minature tree and a bowl of yellow raspberries.

In case anyone is wondering, my apple tree is about 3ft high and is James Grieve on M27 rootstock. This year it produced 15 apples, about half of which were what I would regard as large (about 6.5 oz). Small tree does not mean small apples.

Added courgette, green pepper and spring onion soup to the list of courgette soup varieties in the freezer.
