      • More plums. Son came to visit and took some home with him, but it looks like more plum sorbet will be made (providing I can find some room in the freezer for it).

        • More courgettes, onions and tomatoes.

I cooked them lightly in olive oil and froze them, to be used as a base for ratatouille.

                    • Squirrel Tendencies I'm afraid....

Trousers has been castigating me for days now, because I haven't posted up a single thing that I've Mostly Harvested Today.

So, I'm setting aside time now, between Harvesting, Preserving, and what is an important part of my life right now, that's called 'Hitting The Sack' to put pen to proverbial paper:

                      * ROSEHIPS from wild roses that I stuck in the freezer last Autumn, and only just got around to making Syrup from yesterday, and beautifully replacing those frozen ones with fresh ones from the garden to make more syrup from when I have an available window of time. And I've properly sterilised the syrup in screwtop bottles, so that it will keep now for a whole year, rather than just kind of a few months.

                      * AUTUMN BLISS RASPBERRIES are being harvested every single day, and being 'Bottled'/sterilised for storage over the next 12 months in a cool dark cupboard. Some with just a simple Sugar Syrup, and some more luxuriously with a nip of something a tad Olcoholic!

                      * PHYSALIS/CAPE GOOSEBERRIES picked weekly and stored in their papery lanterns until I've got sufficient to warrant an effort in some direction or other.

                      * BABY AUBERGINES are being harvested dead young and preserved in oil, or roasted with fresh summer herbs and frozen

                      * SWEET PEPPERS are only being cut when intensely deep red, and freshly diced and frozen, for use when supermeerkat prices are unbearable.

                      * RED & GREEN TOMATOES being religiously brought into the house when remotely of a decent size in order not to lose them to Blight, and being ripened via 'Ripe Ones' or 'An Over-Ripe Nana Trick'....., then either made into Passata, or oven roasted for intensity, and then frozen.

                      * CALABRESE florets being cut really small once or twice a week for immediate use into the pan, and into the tummy.

                      * SWEETCORN COBS, because I sowed three lots of seed successionally, I'm getting a 'staggered crop' which is brilliant for the kitchen, because you harvest some, have a gap, and then harvest another lot of cobs, which also gives you time to sort yourself out deciding what to do with the next lot, and then the next lot, etc?

                      * BORLOTTI & SERBIAN CLIMBING BEANS by the absolute TrugLoad, and I wouldn't have it any other way at this time of year, because if you aren't harvesting these babies for use during the Winter, you're missing one hell of a trick. You can be boring and just dry them for later use, but there are some scrummy recipes with fresh herbs and oils for immediate use too.

                      * FIGS.... what can I say... tomorrow I'm going to treat my lovely man to an Antipasto Dinner of fresh figs, Artichoke Hearts, a selection of salami, homemade sweet'n'sour Sarah Raven Borlotti Beans, various unctuous cheeses, and freshly made homegrown herb bread.
Only because fresh figs from your own garden come just once a year, and I believe, you should enjoy their beauty with the one that you love.

                      * LOVAGE SEEDS I mostly harvested today for the first time in my entire life, and, once I'd set free the two Earwigs, the numerous other bugs that didn't want to readily 'let go', I was cock'a'hoop with the half a jar attained to join my stash for the leaner months now.
(I've also been doing Dill & Coriander Seeds, but don't want to keep you up too late?!)

I've got loads more to tell you about, but I'll zip my lip now, and just urge you passionately to harvest as many and as much of your FRESH SUMMER HERBS now that you possibly can, and I can't stress that enough, because the weather is definitely turning colder at night now, and they will quickly begin to deteriorate in culinary value, so try and harvest them on a dry morning, and begin to squirrel away the tastes of summer that you adore from your plot, because, with just a little effort now, it's amazing what you can create on a plate later without even trying?!

                          • Today i harvested my pumpkins and butternut squash. They have been ripe an ready for over a month now, and as the weather forcasters are making noises about ground frost in the south east, i didn't want to take the chance of them getting a frosting and spoiling their storage chances.
