        • Courgettes (Libani & de Nice). Time to dust down all those courgette recipes from last year; this looks set to be a bumper yield again.

Sugar Anne sugar snap and Oregon mangetout: yet again my carefully constructed timetable has fallen apart as the later sowings catch up with the earlies so that an enormous glut appears at the same time. One year I will crack this problem and get it right. At least I've sold enough on to get back more than the cost of the seed in addition to producing as many as we can eat / process / store.

Also a pathetic haul of purple sprouting. They are monster plants (despite the best efforts of the local pigeons) but they are producing very little that is edible. I don't think I'll bother with overwintering to get a summer crop next year - there's too much other stuff available, and they are taking up a lot of space.

            • POtatoes, lettuce, courgettes, cucumber and herbs. Be nice when something else is ready
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

                        • So many blackcurrants! I didn't realise, think I need to employ someone to pick them! This is their first year, also huge punnet of raspberries + loganberries, mange tout, pak choi, lettuce, red onion, and the final picking of strawberries, to be made into strawberry ice cream tomorrow

                          • Peas, raspberries and strawberries. Not enough to make a meal out of yet so naturally I had to gobble 'em all down myself... but Mr Noosner was placated earlier this week with a goosegog crumble. And he'll get some kale and a globe artichoke for his tea tonight. Fair?
