Harvested several firsts for me this year:
Two crookneck squashes (hooray!)
French beans (beautiful maroon Blauhilde, which turn green as they cook)
Beetroot (Boltardy and Alto. The Alto has a lovely cylindrical shape but doesn't taste as good as the Boltardy, which is delicious)
And carrots (Long Lisse de Meux, fragrant and crunchy)
Made this lovely beetroot and feta soup. It's a Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall recipe: BBC - Food - Recipes : Beetroot soup with feta
Also harvested, with a bit of disappointment:
Onions (some not much bigger than shallots) and taters (not many and some look a bit poorly). Also, no idea what half the taters are because the lettering washed off their I.D. sticks in the rain!
