        • Today I wasn't planning a trip to the plot as we having a working party day tomorrow. So I thought I'd harvest and do some plot maintenance afterwards. But couldn't stay away.

I picked another vast amount of purple French beans (they keep coming), 3 normal sized courgettes and a marrow sized one, 4 large patty pans, 3 cucumber, a small pile of cucamelons ( hooray they've finally got to harvest size), and loads of peppers and chillis.

Failed 2 years ago, too late to ripen last year so am delighted with this..

Also lots of the usual... Tomatoes, beans ( so prolific this year), cucs, the inevitable courgettes, chilli's, potatoes and carrots...

              • Chick peas. Something ate the lot last year (mouse, rat...?) as kept finding little piles of shells hidden in various places nearby. All now drying in my shed at home ready for storage.

WOW!! Can I be your friend?

Would love to get to the point where I had a lot of stuff to give away. As it is, that's a bit haphazard and the gluts are usually things like turnips that no-one wants!

                              • Runner beans - I am now taking beans into work to give away - I have so many! Tomatoes and a bucket of greengages. This year is a 'mast year' according to a botanist on Radio 4 the other morning - a bumper year for fruit and nuts ... they happen every 6-7 years usually but scientists don't know what 'mechanism' triggers it! That's why so many trees and hedges are groaning with the weight of the fruit and nuts. Good for us and birds though!
