  • Broad beans, lettuce, mizuna, chives, marjoram and beetroot thinnings - oh, and some marigold petals - they look so pretty sprinkled over salad

    • Lettuce for lunch; cabbage and the first new potatoes for dindins
Got my eye on a few ripe strawberries that may fall into my mouth tomorrow
Starting to feel like summer is a-cumin in!

Have you tried photographing the one you like and emailing them to ask?

I was tempted by this mix but passed on this for that very reason - for the last year I've been bying bagged seasonal leaves from a local grower and when I got a garden I spent ages trying to figure out what it was I liked so much and wanted to grow myself

Edited to stay on topic - my very first (ever) harvest of two radishes were shared for breakfast this morning (they looked yummy and I couldn't wait!).

        • Two little Durham cabbages. I would have left them to grow a bit more but they were absolutely covered in snails and slugs, which I couldn't get to without breaking off some of the leaves anyway. So I decided the best way forward was to just pull them up and save whatever was left of them.

Thanks Trix, good idea. I grew some delicious swedes one year, in the days when I hadn't really started clocking different varieties. I've no idea what they were, and ever since then have been trying different swede varieties to find them again!

                    • Lettuce, pak choi, spinach, mizuna, pea shoots and mustard greens to go in a salad for lunch. Cabbage hispi for tea - a nice solid little heart just the right size. Resisted the temptation to pick the couple of pods of peas that are slightly swollen - they will be much nicer if I can bear to leave them for another few days!

Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?
