Dotty, I am on the English Riviera, sunny Devon where the gulf stream massages the coast just yards from my garden with its warm waters. But if I am ever in Kent I shall visit you and whack you round the head with that harvest!!!! I even started stuff off early but I got nothing like you have. All I've had so far is a few rocket spuds and some cut again lettuce. My strawberries look like they might even miss Wimbledon. Very well done.

      • Amazingly, here in the arctic wastes of Yorkshire I managed to pick enough outdoor strawberries for 2 small bowls (14) to have with cream. We have eaten the odd one over the last few days but today was a milestone. Even better the weather forecast for the rest of the week is good and there are loads more nearly ready. Yum Yum!!!

As if by magic I am sure my sister will sniff them out from 10 miles away and appear as she did last weekend when she managed to talk her way into the bounty of two of my early potato plants.

Well I've got the River Medway flowing past Bill ! and Mr C Dickens used to live nearby, maybe that helped!

I look forward to being 'whacked' round the head, thanks.

          • Started lifting some 1st early spuds this week.

Duke of York excellent; good crop, even tubers and no slug damage.
Lady Christl rather uneven, attacked by slugs and not as productive. I've not tasted them yet, but they're going to have to go some for me to consider doing them again next year.

Mange tout and (particularly) lettuce and other salad leaves have been going great guns for some time now. Everything is so much earlier than last year and - given I've even kept on top of the weeding - the allotment really does look good at the moment.

Wow, a big bunch of sweet peas already! Mine are only a few inches high!

Today harvested new spuds, chard and a few strawberries.
