Today I Mostly Harvested......

  • potatoes and broad bean and pea warm mustard salad
    lettuce and tomato salad with strawb, gooseberry, balsamic and lime dressing
    with veggie sausage rolls [trying to use up freezer space].

    Tomato was the only veg not home grown - soon but not quite yet.

    Blommin lovely though.

      • I had broad bean, pea & runner bean risotto, with rhubarb & custard for pud, everything except rice, eggs & milk were home grown... freerange eggs & milk of OH Uncles farm.. rice from Asda

        • This all sounds fantastic! I'm having my broadbeans tomorrow. Don't know what I did this year but not a single blackfly on them either.

          • I had a Chicken Saag Balti, with saag (spinach), mint and coriander from the garden.

            I also tucked away a cheeky ham sandwhich including rocket and radishes from the garden.

            Hmmm, I wonder what to have for 3rd dinner!

            • Hot, hot weather and BBQ. Lots of mixed lettuce leaves and spring onions. 3 big courgettes that we mixed with garlic and roasted on the barbie, yum. We have runner beans that should be ready by w/e.

                • Strawberries, raspberries, black currants,the first of the blueberries, about to take in the gooseberries, lettuce and herbs and asparagus peas ( ta Wayne!!)

                  Intend to take the first of the Swiss chard tonight to make a quiche.

                    • From my garden I had chives, parsley and sugar peas in an omelette made with free range eggs from the chickens my friend keeps (oh with a bit of grated cheese and a rasher of bacon courtesy of Asda...oops sorry)
                      Not much to harvest yet but what Ihave had is delicious!
                      My broad beans are about 4 inches long so I can't pick them yet I don't think.
                      I've only ever had tinned ones before (bleeerggh) so I cant wait to try the real home grown variety.
                      Its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

                            • 4 courgettes (had in a stir fry for dinner)
                              4.5kg gooseberries - made 2kg into 4.5 big pots of jam this evening - ust had some on a granary roll - yum yum making another huge batch of jam with the rest tomorrow
                              1 pony, 1 dog, 2 geese, 20-odd wild ducks, a friendly pheasant, chooks, 3 veg plots (in the garden), a polytunnel, 2 kids, and the OH

                              • DS's school closed for the summer yesterday so we harvested beetroot, lettuce, potates, peas and raddish. The rest will have to wait.
                                A good beginning is half the work.
                                Praise the young and they will make progress.
