      • Strawberries, raspberries, red and white scallions and two tomatoes (sungold) + lots of herbs. don't you just love growing your own!

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

        • Nearest yet this year to a totally home grown dinner.
Marrow stuffed with chopped tomato, spring onion, spinach, mizzuna, basil and mint - added shop bought mushrooms and cheese.
Served with roasted cherry toms, broadies, runners and new pots.
We're veggies so no animals were harmed in the making of this meal !
OH was well impressed but the kids took it in their stride !

          • Well I made a soup yesterday and having cut back my herbs I added:
            Dill
            Coriander
            Basil
            Chives
            Parsley
I'm particularly proud as they were on the verge of death from underwatering and two hard ravagings of London storms & I thought I'd lost them.
Soup was yum - got loads of it though LOL
Can you free veg & pasta soup?

Mint (in green early gray tea)

Tomatoes, little red ones - about 19 of them, I have only eaten a few as I still have some cherry vine ones I'd bought locally - so I am saving my ones for a special dish!

I'm ever so excited as it's the first things I've eaten that I have grown myself! I think I have got the bug now (although the bug almost gotmy veg a while back).

What should I be sowing and planting now to keep going - any ideas?
You could call it a flog as I need flogging with my gardening mistakes - but actually it's a photo-log of my efforts as a newbie.

            • Yesterday I harvested, cooked and served:

              Broccoli
              French beans
              Runner beans
              Baby carrots

My little ones left their potatoes and some of their chicken but cleared ALL of their veg! Result

Also picked, roasted and then pickled 3 varieties of Beetroot on Sunday.

              Regards

              • Getting there I think.

My 2nd year trying to grow my own veg.
Harvested a hand full of Turnips and a hand full of peas, although I think i left my peas hanging a little long, the stalk has slowly been dying bottom upwards but I left it for a couple of weeks to try and get a couple of extra pods ripe as the top half of the stalk looked healthy. What do you think went wrong there?
Tried pulling up a carrot but was a bit to small for my liking so I think I'll leave them another week or two, is this a good idea?
Sorry just one more question for now. I planted a few shooting potatoes I had in the cupboard around March/April I think they were Desiree. Just an experiment really. I think one lot got Blight, leaves yellowed and died, pulled them up and had a few potatoes the size of a gob stopper and dead roots. A couple of potatoe plants sitting next to them are looking fine and grown well but not showing any signs of flowering, is this normal, how long should I leave them?
                Sowing the seed of love!

                    • Today in my little plot I have in my old hanging basket (cheaper than a trug) a bundle of runner beans, a half dozen courgettes, the last of the calabrese, the first shallots and dwarf french beans, a few mange tout, a few spring onions and some peas. It still makes me smile to have all this from MY garden!

                      • My first runner bean... and my first broad bean ( a bit small yet but I decided to chance it) I also picked a handful of sugar snap peas which are doing great.
I have never eaten fresh broad beans before so I podded it then cooked it in boiling water then shelled it again. Delicious but they need to grow another inch or two yet.
The runner bean was lovely and I hope to get a lot more if these torrential downpours don't knock all the flowers off completely!
Its been terrible here today. My taters have been flattened!
Its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

                        • today I harvested:
                          - last of the overwintered onions
                          - 4 courgettes
                          - broadbeans

which were made into a risotto for tea and served with freshly harvested baby carrots and mangetouts on the side

oh nearly forgot, picked the first baby sweetcorn from the GH and chopped it into 4 to serve with tea!
