In the bag today we put another cabbage and another courgette. Also dug up another couple of spud plants - good size tubers but only two or three per plant so am dissapointed with this variety (Kestrel) but never mind cos me Charlottes are ready to come up.

OT: vegetarian stuffed marrow recipe
Mmmmm.... stuffed marrow.
Don't know if anyone would be interested in this recipe for stuffed marrow? Chop marrow in half lengthways, then scoop seeds out and blanch pieces of marrow in boiling water for five minutes. If you've got a really huge marrow, cut it into several large bits and chop up one of the bits for use in the filling (see below).
For the filling: fry chopped onion and garlic, add chopped fresh tomatoes and about half a pint of stock (I use chicken stock 'cos I'm not vegetarian and we usually have a few trays of it in the freezer). Add chopped chilli (optional) plus herbs (again, optional) and a dash of Marmite/soy sauce. Reduce down for a bit. Add the chopped up marrow, plus about a quarter to half a pound of nuts crushed in the blender (use any nuts you like in any ratio - almonds, brazils, hazelnuts, walnuts, pine nuts...). To bulk out the nuts and solidify things a bit, add some breadcrumbs. The mixture should be the consistency of a very thick sauce with bits in. Use this to stuff the marrow pieces, and top with plenty of grated Cheddar and bake in the oven on gas mark 6 until the cheese goes a bit brown.

Harvested 4 pods of pinto beans that were ina container in the greenhouse.
This is my first year growing these and so have been patiently watching them grow.
have a lot more outdoors but are not nearly ripe yet.
also pulled some onions, some late strawberries, blackcurrants and salad leaves.
the tomatoes are starting to ripen faster now with Legend, Ailsa Craig, Moneymaker, Sun gold, and Mexico \midget producing quite well.
ferline, Alicante, Pineapple and Pearly Pink still to ripen
Growing an F2 Black CherryxSungold given to me by a friend. The first tomato looks like it will be ready to pick in a day or two, so looking forward to tasting it.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Today I am mostly dealing with the glut of courgettes and marrows - I have 2lbs already made into soup (luckily having guests for lunch), and I will make another batch later today for the freezer (having guests for dinner next Saturday!!).
But I was harvesting on Thursday night, and came home with:
Last of new potatoes (1st earlies) - enough for a bacon and cabbage dinner, the soup, and a handful for salad today.
A nice cabbage - see above, and a quarter left for a stirfry tomorrow
A handful of calabrese - no really big heads this year but enough to satisfy us
A handful of french beans - at LAST!!
The last 5 or so broad bean pods - did well this year though
Another small portion of peas- enough for another small bag in freezer
4 patty pan squashes -yum!
3 marrows and about 8 courgettes - lots of soups, and lots of aunts got doorstep surprises!!
A bag of red and yellow onions - about 8 bolted ones to use this week, although I'll be harvesting the bulk of them in the next few weeks

Yesterday I did a roast dinner (we don't have one very often) and OHwas very excited when he realised that the roasted baby parsnips were from the garden, as were the roast potatoes, runner beans, climbing beans, cabbage, carrots, and the shallots I roasted with the veg too. And the eggs for the yorkies were from out hens too
I was stuffed to bursting after!
