Today I Mostly Harvested......

Pulled the last of the container-grown leeks which we had for tea. We've been eating them since mid July so well worth the effort and they grow so easily. Next year I'll set them off earlier but I doubt that we'll get to eat them much before the end of June. Maincrop leeks are doing very well but I don't want to touch them yet as they're fattening up nicely thanks to my seaweed feed. Also picked runner beans and carrots.

Today I harvested caterpillars.....dozens of the little *******
Sprayed some of that rhubarb tea but it made no difference so i had to pick them off by hand. We seem to have had a plague of cabbage whites this year. Tomorrow I'll try and harvest something I can eat !

Harvested contents of a bag of Mayan Twilight potatoes. Not such a big harvest as all the earlies but very pretty they look.
Also had a few chilies - purple jalapeno and hanoi red for a stir fry - yummy!

Today I harvested courgettes, beetroot, tomatoes, spinach, cucumber and dwarf french beans - butter coloured. They were yummy. Made some good tomato sauce/passatta and some yummy courgette soup for the freezer.

Fabulous warm sunny day here in Aberdeen. Although only been a plotter for 18months I am completely addicted to my allotment. I love all of it even hand weeding and being able to take home veg or fruit to cook (or not) and enjoy veg with no chemicals on it is fab. I'm not knocking folk who do use pesticides, each to their own, just my choice not to. Today I harvested. 50% of my main crop Desiree potatoes. Beautiful clean almond shaped beauties. Steamed with some butter and parsley yummy. Also took home a nice turnip, carrots, parsley, beetroot, courgettes green and yellow, and the last of my onward peas. I eat so many when I'm picking its a wonder I have any to freeze HaHa..
Onions, shallots on the rack drying gently inside, nice feeling having all this food gathered. How lucky are we though that this is a nice option for us, and we can actually go and buy food if the harvest isnt great. Many people in the world cant do that bless them.

Today I picked some courgettes - about £5 worth I reckon.

Also, I picked the Tumbling Toms, a big bowl of them, mostly green - I don't think they were ripening and the leaves are starting to look a bit suspicious.

Today I harvested just over half a kilo of blackberries , and 2kgs of apples, a handful of green beans (I get a handful every day), some parsey, dill and fennel and my first cucumber.

Been away for a few days so returned to a mega harvest. Massive pile of French Beans, Courgette, Patty Pan Squash, bunch of Carrots, 8 San Marzano tomatoes and a massive bowl of Cherry Tomatoes.

Box day tomorrow followed by a market at Lairg Crofters Show on Saturday so today, in the p****n rain I dug, picked and pulled the following - 25kg Duke of York, 50kg Foremost, 25kg Rooster, 25kg Charlotte potatoes.
2 crates of Runner beans(Enorma), 1 crate of French Beans (Blue Lake), 2 crates of courgettes (mixed) 36 cucumbers Passandra and Pepinex 69), 6 x aubergines (Long Purple), 10 x Florence Fennel (Rudy), 1 basket of chillies (Cayenne), 1 basket of tomatoes (mixed), 1 basket of cherry tomatoes (Tumbling Tom yellow and red), 2 crates of broad beans (Witkiem Manita), 10 x beetroot (Cylindra), 12 x chinese cabbage (The Blues), 1 crate of apples (unknown but small, red and incredibly sweet)- and in the morning I shall pick 30 ballhead cabbages (Primo)and a dozen or so cauliflowers (Igloo) for my boxes, and on Saturday morning I shall top up with beans, chard, spinach and beetroot, as well as all my chutneys, jams and jellies.
I'm not gonna enter the virtual show this year, so will try and remember to take my camera tomorrow morning and take some photos of all this veg to put in my albums so you can all see what I do with myself !
