I was getting a bit worried that I may actually have to BUY some vegetables (God forbid!) if I couldn't get any from the allotments because of the snow.
Today I managed to move a bit of thawing snow and harvest some smashing unmarked carrots. I also pulled a couple of swedes, giving the tops to the chooks and some leeks, which the chooks bennefitted from also.
With the addition of some onions taken from store, OH was well impressed and is making an allotment Beef bourguignon. (Shame I had to buy the beef!)My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Lots of perpertual spinach!
OK, not exactly harvested... but now the snow has gone I'm amazed they have survived being in soil that has frozen solid since the new year, and 4 inches of snow over the last week, finally the snow has gone and the soil has thawed out and the spinach looks as good as it did in September.
All my other salad leaves withered and died in November, so whats so special about spinach?
