        • First crop of the year! I say crop, but it was a few spinach leaves, rocket leaves and a little lambs lettuce. Very tasty!

          • Rhubarb, a great armful of the stuff . So lucky in that there is an derelict plot over the other side of the stream from me wth a huge bed of of the stuff in it. It means I can leave my transplanted crowns for another year so they can really establish themselves.
It was dark. And cold. And very, very empty.

And in the middle of all of the dark, cold, emptiness lay something darker, and colder, but very, very full.

                • Newbie, That's brilliant.....I didn't used to use Sage much. Actually, I used to completely ignore it? But.....Since reading Sarah Raven books, she's kind of re'invented the herb for me, and she uses it superbly, later in the year with fresh Borlotti Beans.
I totally understand where you're coming from. Sage is definitely worth harvesting...

Today, I Mostly Harvested some bolting Savoy Cabbage, for to go with some homemade fish pie, and I snuck out a frozen Wild Garlic & Nettle Pesto Cube to add to the cooking water. Honestly. That Pesto is much more divine than I originally thought, and I must tomorrow look into stealing a load more fresh wild garlic leaves before they're lost for this year.

                  • Today I harvested some pea shoots to go in a salad for dinner. Very tasty. And I've got some radishes that should be ready by this weekend, so that will be two things I've grown that I can put in our salad...

                    • Lettuce and spring onions!!!!! Can't really take much credit as they were sown late last year and left in the cloche just in front of the greenhouse. Several times I went to pull them up but as they were reasonably healthy looking, though small, I left well alone. This recent warm spell gave them a boost. The lettuce was only small and was only just starting to heart up (I think it was winter density) but the onions were lovely.
I also had with my salad some of last year's pickled beetroot and pickled cucumber. OH says they don't count and it's cheating to include them!! Dessert was apple crumble made from scrumping apples late last year from one of our country parks. Another few weeks and I hope to have new potatoes to go with it all.
