Now, where is that Rhubarb shnapps recipe!?

          • Helgalush, you just keep going/growing the way you are, and in no time at all, I promise you, you'll be surprising even yourself!

You don't need to harvest a mountain of stuff every day?
I only harvested some Rocket Leaves and some Cut'n'Come Again Leaves for our salad this evening. Largely, because the only other things ready are Spring Onions now, DOH?

We're all doing brilliantly. Keep patting ourselves on the back.

            • Broccoli!

Purple sprouting broccoli! And then some more purple sprouting broccoli! Everyone likes it including the 8-year-old

We've had a few radishes as well but they haven't really kicked in yet.

                • Newbie, you're not wrong.... I'd like to make a wee bit more to 'water-down' my last batch? Trousers has been complaining rather strongly about the strength of it (with a hint of chilli)..... Okay, so I got the HINT a tad wrong maybe, and it's like a Chilli Schnapps with a hint of Rhubarb?!
Personally, I think I pierced the chilli a few too many times.

So. Remedial action Baldrick Plan No. 1: Make another batch, and mix the two together, and invite The Piglets to stay again.
Now THERE'S an appreciative couple of homemade schnapps recepticles!!
And it was GORGEOUS to speaks with you today Piggie.X

                  • Well here I am, posting on this thread for the first time

This morning I near scalped my rhubarb (Glaskin's perpetual and an unknown variety) - hope I haven't killed them but I have been waiting three years to get this much ...
and did the same to a self-seeded 'hungry gap' kale and got some additional veg for dinner ....

                    • Yesterday actually, but had to share it with you. 8 beautifully white, perfectly formed, huge cauliflowers. Steamed some for Sundy lunch, gave one to next door neighbour, plenty to my daughter and 4 lots in the freezer. Now loads of space freed up as well.

Wow..REALLY impressed Florence....what's the trick for getting home grown cauli in MAY!!??

Today I got a few rocket and land cress leaves from the pots that overwintered in the frame, plus a couple of fairly hearty spring cabbage.
I cut out the hearts to eat and strung up the rest on the side of the hen hut.

My avian girls have been having a fantastic time in the garden!
I dumped 2 piles of compost on a patch of ground that is earmarked for leeks and salads next month. My three hens dug and scratched it almost level!

Mind you, I've had to be vigilant because they seem to have a taste for rocket and lettuce

I would be a perfectionist, but I dont have the time

                            • This evening, I harvested yet more CCA leaves, and Rocket Leaves for our Salad. I'm not bothered how 'Boring' that sounds, because every time we harvest the equivalent of a supermarket-bag of the stuff, it's the same as parting company with at least £1.50 of cash from your purse. It wouldn't be as fresh, it wouldn't be as delicious, and it wouldn't be as tasty.
