  • What is there still time to grow?

Sorry, but getting a bit ahead of myself here . If the offer of a garden (20 by 50 ft) goes through, and I've got to only clear this years weeds only, (no nettles or thistles), what do you think I have time to grow? (OH said he will help, back trouble not withstanding )
I was thinking of putting in some beans and cougettes in pots (bearing my rent will be paid in produce), ready to plant out later.
I have celeriac plants I was going to give away, which might well stay now, and four small tomato plants.
Is it too late for potatoes and brassicas? Due to lack of space these have disappeared from my growing list these days.
Once I've seen the garden and talked with the owner I'll have bit more idea how long term this might be. Think I'll check the Landshare website for guidlines, as the contact came from there.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
    Now a little Shrinking Violet.

I'm no expert, but I have space set aside for rows of turnip, swede and carrot to go in this month and next, also intending to have a go at butternut squash and maybe another squash, and if I have space later in the year, Chinese cabbage (though I had no luck with these last year).

I'm also found some Anya seed pots going cheap, having already planted quite a few first earlies, so am going to put these in bags soon, in the hope that they will grow to maturity once my Lady Christls are used up.

I don't know if there's time to raise any other brassicas from seed, but you might be able to get some seedlings around the time they need planting on.

      Have fun!

Perfect time for sowing lots of brassicas - caulis, kale, etc. (And even if you've missed the boat on some you could always pick up a tray of young plants from the farmers market / garden centre )

Sweetcorn - squashes - cucumbers - peas - salad - loads of things!
GCs still have seed potatoes so I imagine there is just about time for those too?

If it were me i would be busy going through my seed packets and working out what I could sow...
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.

I've not sown my kale, winter cabbage or spring cabbage for next year. Only today I sowed a second lot of leaf beet and normal spinach and am sowing more peas, mange tout, beetroot and turnip direct on the plot. The parsnips and main carrots have only recently gone in and I've not got around to the swede yet. French beans are only recently sown in pots, as are the courgettes and the the winter squash are still pretty titchy. Anyway, in summary, there's loads you can still do and I'd be inclined to risk some spuds also, they'll probably catch up now it's a bit warmer.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
