We used the clay that was already there, MPC, manure (from the GC) compost from our bin and top soil which we bought, again from the GC. £28 per ton delivered.

What do you fill your raised beds with ?

As I have sandy loam with little humus I use a thick layer of newspapers, then usually mix in chicken manure, leafmould and/or manure, with maybe a little woodash, (all depending on crop) with topsoil on top. For carrots and other root crops that need lots of drainage, I add a wee bit of sand to a seived mix put into pinchbar holes. I don't have transport even if I had money, so no mpc for me !There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.
