yes, its a little cold for the french beans still, theyll grow but slowly. my rhs book says french bean seedlings need 10C or above which it is just about the temp at the moment and the optimum growing temp is 16C or higher which weve only had on a few warm days so far.
i had mine out in a big container few a few weeks but growth has been slow so ive brought them back in today.Last edited by 00264167; 12-05-2009, 12:24 PM.

Sorry, now to answer your question - I'd be more worried about the wind at the moment.A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

Am I premature then?
I've planted my french beans & dwarf french beans out on May Day. In my defence, my Mum said I could
Some are in troughs against the kitchen wall, others are in tubs and the rest are in the OH's raised bed. The raised bed has a mesh around it to keep the mogs out, so that might help with the wind.
We rarely have frost in Somerset in May, so fingers crossed there.
No, I've got to go out and check them now, make sure they aren't damaged.

I have pumpkin, runner and french beans out and courgettes too.
The ones i sowed outside in pots are smaller but tough, the ones i grew indoors are now out on the plot, slight besmirching on the edges but going well, i dont think we should mollycoddle too much, but keep some in reserve and dont forget it is not too late to sow more!!

Yeah go for it put a few out and keep some inside.
I have put some french beans, runner beans, courgettes and marrows out and they have been fine.
But as mentioned above you can always give them some protection with some fleece as I have done with my beans. Those that forget the past are condemned to repeat it!
