When I sowed my purple jalapeno chiilies in January, I had 3 out of 5 germinate. I kept 2 on the kitchen window sill, and the third had to slum it in the cold greenhouse. All the plants were pretty much the same at the time, so it was just the luck of the draw whihc 2 got the warmer living quarters. Here are some pictures of the self same plants. Needless to say, the one without fruit is the one in the cold greenhouse. It is still alive and looking much stockier than the other two, but not in flower yet.

What a difference - Chilli plants
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.

Sorry, just to clarify, the small one was inside until mid Feb, then fleeced when we had frosts etc, but no heating anyway. The thermometer didn't go below freezing in the greenhouse, I think the lowest was 2.Last edited by BarleySugar; 11-05-2009, 09:01 PM.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Barleysugar, absolutely amazing what a bit of heat can do.
Am really impressed how advanced your chillis are this early in the season.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

As the plants are in smallish pots (5-6"), I have been feeding them with tomato food once the first fruit formed. I also have 1 numex twilight, 3 hot lemon, 1 scotch bonnet and 2 chocolate habeneros on the window sill as well as 2 peppers. My OH actually suggested the other peppers (again smaller plants from outside), should move to the bedroom windowsill, as it has the same SW aspectI could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

WOW! Amazing difference! They've grown quickly indoors but do look more fragile than the greenhouse plant - more sturdy looking. Didn't take plants long to flower AND fruit! Well Done!
BTW - you're growing an awful lot of chillies - you really eat that many?

Mine are still in the kindergarten stage although they do seem to have grown a bit in the last couple of weeks, but still only about 2" high. Not worried as long as I get a good crop and can dry a few. Still have some dried ones from last year.
