Hi there. I have one tomato plant which is being grown under cover and the leaves are turning yellow from the centre outwards and they are slightly crispy on the edges. The stems seemed to have darkened patches rather sooty in appearance. Is this blight ? The rest of my plants look great so if it is blight I need to get it out quick I assume.

Doesn't sound like it. Could it have got a chill? Or scorched - especially just after watering. Water on the leaves can do this.
It's also possible that they need feeding. Compost hold enough nourishment for about 6 weeks. If they are in the same container longer than that they need a bit of general feed. I go with seaweed extract until they set fruits, then Tomorite.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

If your leaves look anything like these, then it's more likely to be a magnesium deficiency, which is common in tomato plants. You can improve things by getting some Epsom Salts, either from a garden centre, or from some chemist. A teaspoonful sprinkled round the base of the plants and watered in, until they improve. Then feed with a proprietary tomato feed which contains magnesium should prevent it recurring.
Otherwise it may be lack of calcium which happens with uneven watering (Ie getting too dry) as the plant can only take up calcium with water.Last edited by SarzWix; 12-05-2009, 05:42 PM.
