      Don't know about Tiger slugs, but you get leopard slugs which hunt other slugs.

          Earthworms only eat dead and decaying plant matter... and turn it into lovely plant food.

          This is why your lawn doesn't disappear overnight.

            As this is my first post I will try and not make it sound too silly. I can understand worms being a good thing for my potatoes in a container but what happens if i get an ant nest in the container, is that good or bad or am I likely to do more damage to pots try to get rid of ants?

              not a silly post merryfisher - welcome to the Vine!!
              i fear that ants can do a fair bit of damage
              and it WAS leopard slugs I was thinking of!!!!

                Even slugs have a part in the ecosystem! There will be loads of various sized ones along with worms and other creepy crawlies in your compost heap converting waste matter to compost!
