Sweetcorn in loo rolls

Just wondering if I'm looking after my sweetcorn properly. They germinated in loo rolls really quickly, but one has now collapsed and withered away. I water them once every couple of days (they're at a north facing large window).

Will the sweetcorn be ok in loo rolls til June? Am I watering too much/too little?

They're the only thing I'm now slightly concerned about, everything else seems happy enough now!

i sowed mine into loo rolls and half the crop rotted - the half that didn't is going great guns and really needs to go out, but i am on a compost mission at present so they are still on a south facing windowsill in their toilet rolls
they really need a lot of water - if the roots have come out of the bottom then those roots need to be kept moist

Thanks Iamhuman, I'll keep watering them then, fingers crossed they don't all rot! Maybe I should plant some more as back up? I'd rather have too many than too little sweetcorn!

i felt a little bit cheated but then this is my first real year
also keeping them warm at night is a big deal
i've jsut found out that some windowsills can get very cold at night
so you might want to consider moving them to a warmer place until morning

keep going and i'm sure you'll get there!

Well, they're not really on a windowsill, they're on a table next to the bay window, they're still in th warm room when we close the curtains, I have toms, celeriac and other goodies on the windowsill! Will they be ok do you think?

i reckon if you keep them watered and move them further in the room at night time they will perk up!

My sweetcorn was coming out of the bottom of the Toilet roll and I was worried that they would be "pot"bound. I have a load of small yoghurt pots which I save so a few weeks ago I pierced drainage holes in some, put in a bit of fresh compost and placed the toilet roll on the top, on the basis that the roots would have a bit more protection and hopefully be kept moist. They seem OK at the moment, some are quite tall.
I didn't think I had anything to lose by trying it since they would probably have been gonners anyway with the roots through like they were - and no prospect of putting them outside for at least another week.
When it comes to planting I shall water them well in an effort to soak off any roots stuck to the pot, and hope that they slide out, roots intact.
