first earlies

Question,
Do you have to wait until first earlies flower before you go ferkling around underneath to see if they have any spuds there?
Don't want to upset them!!They have been in since feb so quite some time, i also covered them with fleece to bring them along and they are really high, been earthed up four times, desperate to have some potatoes i have grown!

Some varieties don't flower. They usually say 12 - 14 weeks. THEN furtle.

If you have plenty sown then try lifting a root and seeing what there is. I would think that with them being in since Feb you are going to have something and even if it is only a small crop they will be out of this world. It will also give you some idea as to how long the rest are going to be.

Thanks Ian, will try that tomorrow as it is raining cats and dogs here now and they really hurt when they hit you in the open.lol!
