Can you have too many worms?

I have been digging up my first early potatoes (in my poly tunnel) and with every fork come lots of worms? I double dug the bed last Summer as It was grass land before that, it had a lot of well rotted horse manure in it as well – but the worms I am digging up and long up to 8 inches. The potatoes are in tip top condition and I want to use the bed straight away but should I remove some on the worms as I am digging?

    Regards
    Pat

You can never have to many worms and the more you have the better condition your ground is in. They will ensure good drainage and will mix all the elements up.

I wish I had your problem, it is a sign you have done well with your soil. Earthworms will never do any harm to your veggies, absolutely 100% the opposite, so leave them in and thank your lucky stars. If nothing else they will help prevent the problems with compaction that you can get as soil ages in greenhouses and polytunnels. Keep the numbers up and you will be laughing.
Wireworms, cutworms and PCNs (Potatos Cyst Nematodes) - now they are a different kettle of fish entirely, and you may have dodged a bullet there since it was grassland and that usually has them in it. Well done indeed to get potatoes so early and in such good condition !

You've encouraged them all to come and play in your soil by double digging and throwing on lots of food for them to eat
I'd just leave them alone to play...
