  • Greenhouse tatties.

I planted some 1st earlies in the greenhouse in January in one of those spud planter bucket thingys. They have gone a bit beserk and the tops are currently taking over the greenhouse.

It was a bit of an experiment to try and get some super early earlies.

Am I likely to get a decent harvest or am I unknowingly just growing loads of tattie leaves?

I am undecided as to whether the plant is wasting all its energy growing foliage or whether the abundance of foliage will help feed a mass of tubers.

    Anyone tried this before?.
Which is it?, loads of leaves = loads of tubers or loads of leaves = no tubers.

    Ta muchly

    The leaves feed tuber growth.

If they have been in since January, you should have a good crop in there. Go have a furtle / broggle and let us know

I've heard of furtle but not broggle!!!

Are there more terms like this?! There should be a glossary in the FAQ!

Well i nervously lifted up the broggle skirt and had a good old furtle through the broggle port at the front

And without emptying too much compost have enough georgious little spudlets for tea! horaah.

I will leave the rest to grow on a bit.

I love new tatties I only have another three planters and six rows five metres long to get through.

            Thanks everyone.

Have they flowered yet? I wouldn't even think of lifting them if they haven't. Lift them after they have flowered and when the foliage starts to wilt.
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.
