Is it too late for Peas

Hi Folks

The OH has just asked if i am growing peas oops forgot and as its my first year of growing anything was wondering if its too late to sow them now
If not which type are best for sowing now or should i buy them as small plants
If i am too late then which are the best to get for next year

Ambassador are supposed to be mildew resistant, so a good one for planting later in the season

Yup, Gardener's Kitchen produce them for the GCs, and B&Q had them in last time I was there. Plenty of time to sow your own yet though.

You can sow your peas when you like John so plant away. Kelvendon Wonder are a good all round variety.

Hi Folks

Thanks for all the great posts Kalvedon Wonder & Ambassador sound great just looked them up and they sound about right for what i want.

Also I was watching a program on UKTV Gardens the other day called the Victorian Kitchen Garden made back in 1982 and a pea that they were sowing was a marrowfat pea but i didn't catch its name (if they gave it) and was wondering if the marrofat pea is the name of a pea or what, they looked really big and juicy i have tried to find them on seeds by post and other sites but no luck

Try Asda .... Whitworth dried peas. A 1 Kg bag is around £2. If you sow them close together and the rows about 6" apart, they will self support so you don't need any twigs or sticks!

yes john peas are just dried seeds like any other, except they have been dried then put in a box for food use instead of growing
