These were grown from slices taken from potatoes that had sprouted in the fridge [shop bought]. Then, put onto root trainers, and covered. You need the sprouty bit and about 5mm [1/4 inch] of the potato underneath it.
The other day my OH said those 7 magic words [Do you think we have enough potatoes?]....so I am planting 2 roottrainers worth of these at the lottie in response. I'll then use more of these in pots in the greenhouse for a late harvest in the autumn.
I am amazed, but I'm not sure why. Over the moon though!
If you haven't used roottrainers before, the scale is that they are about an inch wide.
