  • Spots on Lettuce leaves

Could anyone tell me what disease has my lettuce got please?

There are tiny yellowish spots on the outer leaves of my cos lettuce leaves that are about 15cms.

Some of the spots seems to become a bit larger, then becoming paper thin, eventually a whole appears.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

It's nothing to worry about, you can still eat them.

        Thanks very much.
I was a bit apprehensive as to whether I'd be eating some 'added protein' if I ate those leaves.

Are they outside? we have noticed after heavy rain, then a warm day alot of our plants, flowers ,fruit and veg leaves do this(it looks like acid rain has landed!!!)so I will be interested in what other folk think this is.

Yes they are outside, on a window sill.

In the same trough, just next to the cos lettuce, I have some red salad bowl lettuce that are growing fine, without any spots on the leaves.

It looks very much like sun scorch, This can happen when it rains and then the sun comes out. The tiny specks of water act as a magnifying glass and burns the leaf. Nothing to worry about and still edible.
