  • tumbling toms

This is going to be embarrassing..... here goes. I bought a wall hanging basket that came with a packet of seeds of tumbling toms , it said chuck em in and reap the benefits of hundred of tiny toms in the summer.... I now have a basket bursting with plants which is great but odd as I didnt think there were that many seeds in the packet...I have NO idea what to do next.. do I thin them out or leave em to it..B&Q didnt go into any details on the packet so since iv never grown a tomato in my life i could do with some advice...... I do hope its not going to be too technical............ Clairissa

how many plants do you want? how big is the basket?

If you only want to keep one plant then pull out the rest and keep the strongest looking one. If you want to keep more then you need to prick them out, which is gently trying to pick the plant and the roots and then repotting it to another place.

Someone more experienced will be along shortly

Thirty in one semi-circular 11" basket? I've got circular 14" baskets and only put two or three plants in each. Do you have anywhere else you can "rehouse" some of them to?

Oh, and welcome to the Vine by the way

They should be fine if you pull them out and replant elsewhere. Toms will root from a broken off bit of stem so even if your a bit rough they should still recover
