    I have read mid-oct is this correct???

    Around then, I sowed mine last year on 10th October. You can get Spring planting varieties too, but I haven't tried that.

      You plant garlic in October or spring, depending on variety. This may help? How to Grow the Garlic herb.

        Welcome to the Vine Newchillies. For best results sow Oct /Nov.

        You can use garlic from the supermarket.

        If your ground is cold and wet in winter drill it up into V shaped mounds and plant the garlic into the top of the V's.

        Alternatively plant it into containers of compost - 6" of depth is enough.

        From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

          To get the traditional looking garlic you need an autumn planting. I sowed some in March in a protected raised bed and the cloves have only produced a single bulb do to not being exposed to enough cold weather. They are still usable but not very big.
