  • Potato "theft"

Went to lottie last week and one of my potato plants had gone yellow. Check trusty gardening book and said it might be lack of water. Was a possibility as end of row. So watered and fed over next few days and seemed to be perking up. Anyway, went back a couple is days ago and someone had removed it along with two other healthy plants in the middle of two other rows! Checked with lottie shared friend and if wasn't him! What to do? Very puzzling. Is it theft do you think?

A few of the local lads seem to use the site as a shortcut (despite the fact that it is clearly not public right of way) and sometimes they seem to take pleasure in mucking about with things - they don't necessarily pinch stuff, still less any plants, but I've found a couple of footrpints on my beds or things mysteriously move about. It's very annoying, as they trod on my emerging JA and killed it -and a couple of weeks ago, somebody nicked the canes I was growing my sweet peas up! I was not impressed.
        Humph.
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.

might it be someone who thinks you've got a disease?

Sound like someone nicked from the middle of the row hoping the neighbouring plants would cover their crime. Very wrong. Has it happened to anone else on the site?

Paint up a sign and stick it in the middle of your plot.
Something like "If you're so broke that you need to steal a few spuds, just ask me in future and I'll give you some".

Or a sign saying, "Caution, contact pesticide spraying !" and put a little blurb about the toxic effects of carbamyl poisons, organophosphates etc. Shouldn't be hard to convince them they will have defective sperm for forever more !

Haha. Our plot it pretty secluded/secure so I reckon it's theft as the middle taken was perfectly healthy. If they were "helping" why not leave a note?

That may have been the problem in the first place!

Well thieves are quite enterprising but not sure how quickly they'd get to Putney from Eccles!
