Sorry to hear your news, hopefully you will heal quickly with lots of TLC, dont over do it. Pretend you are the nurse and the patient and look after yourself. I'm sure your plants will come along fine and you can spend some time pampering and surfing the net, chatting on here :-)

Can only echo what everyone else has said, take care and take it easy, you surely will find things you can grow once you can safely do a bit. One thought did occur to me - have you any gardenery friends who might foster some of your things in pots - just to look after them for a little while 'til you can do a bit more, just might help reduce the frustration a little bit.
Look after yourself, your garden needs you next year! Every good wish.

Hope you get better soon Topcat. I totally empathise with you as I broke my ankle in August 2007 so could do anything other than hobbling round pointing with my crutch and telling my OH what needed doing. It was very frustrating not to be able to harvest anything myself but getting better is more important as there is always next years crop to think about.
Hope you have a speedy recovery and yes do ask your friends if any of them would like to provide some fostercare or even some help for this year. I know if I was in your shoes our friends and neighbours would be happy to help and a promise of a share in the crops is always a good incentive

Think of your back as a delicate seedling needing TLC.
My sister broke five ribs and her wrist 6 weeks ago. She can bend down now but can't lift much so fills 1 litre milk bottles with water and lines them up and down the gardens for watering.
I'm doing the mowing (hideous, waste of time chore), another friend is weeding and yet another has potted up her baskets, troughs and planters.
She was unhappy about what couldn't be sown and tended at first until I pointed out successional module sowings could be made and one of us undergardeners can plant them out when they're big enough.
Now she's threatening to delay her recovery until the garden is perfected.
Think laterally about how to grow things without stressing your body when it is stronger. If OH doesn't 'dig' gardening, perhaps he does diy and could build some temporary waist high shelving that you will be able to container grow on.
Don't be tempted to force your body into too much work too soon. It's already working damn hard trying to heal.If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing to excess
