  • Scottish garlic

Just taken delivery of some garlic from a company in Nairn, Scotland

It's called 'The really garlicky company' at
    www.reallygarlicky.co.uk

Looks pretty good and only waited 2 days.
Thought if it will do well in Scotland than it's probably going to do better than an English or French variety.
Bought some in Waitrose to plant out and then had second thoughts as it may need to be treated for a higher success rate- so ordered some online to try out.
Maybe those of you up there might be able to grow it too?

Hi Nicos, I've already planted mine. They sell that garlic in the shops here. The variety is called Melody. I'm hoping it will do well - for both of us.

Thanks for that link Nicos - I've been getting mine from the Isle of Wight. I didnt buy any this autumn as my summer harvest has been sprouting! so I planted some of that instead.

I thought the Isle of White garlic looked very expensive Jennie. I got the stuff from Nairn in the supermarket and I think it was 3 bulbs for about £1.90. Will see how it goes.

Alice - It has actually worked out quite reasonable as I have had such a huge harvest and all I ordered was five heads. I don't go for their offers of different types for 19.99, I should think that would work out expensive.

Although I got mine from the IOW - the place you mention in Scotland - it isn't one of rick steins food heros is it? Like your idea that if it comes from up north, it would be more hardy down south. I had a friend who always said that plants from the Heyes garden centre in the Lakes were better growers down here in Lancashire! DDL

Re the IOW one. I agree that £19.50 is a lot, however we got some from him at 5 head for £6 although we ended up with one lot of 6 heads for £6 and 6 cloves of elephant garlic for £6. Now to plant the stuff.

We are rather partial to garlic as can be judged by recipes posted.

Felling abit of a cheapskate now mine was only a couple of quid from Wyevale. Hope it turns out ok as I love garlic. If its ok I might invest next year in a more adventurous variety.

It has Mrs D, its probably about 3" but I put mine in a couple of weeks before yours. I also put the little cloves you get in the middle in a pot on the kitchen window sill and they are about 12" high, not sure how they will do but nothing ventured...

This first year is about growing things I want to grow and if they work fine, if they don't plan b comes into play. Only problem is I haven't got a plan b

My 7 year old has been diagnosed with dyslexia quite recently. He's left-handed and colour blind as well bless him.

                            Congratulation Mrs D
