    There's no need to feel stupid - the answers are always obvious once you know them, and appearing daft is almost a necessity round here.

    Plant them with the green stem pointing upwards.

      If I'd not read this forum my potatoes would have been planted upside down last year, so there must be more than me and you who didn't know this

        I bet they'd manage even if you did plant them upside down. They'd probably just take a couple of days extra to show above ground.
