Being overun by Potato Foliage

Hi All

My potatoes in sacks are doing well (if the amount of foliage is anything to go by)....question is can I cut back some of it of each ones to avoid it looking like a jungle at the edge of the vegetable patch?

Try to tie it up instead, cutting off foliage can only compromise your yields and you have gone to all this trouble for spuds.!

A related question: my spuds are currently in flower. I know that, left to their own devices, they will produce, small, green, tomato-like poisonous fruit. Am I right in guessing that it's a good idea to prevent the fruit developing, so that the plants can continue to put their energy into growing big tubers, or wil that just make them flower again in an effort to produce some viable fruit?

No expert StephenH, but anything left to fruit generally has expended it's energy on reproducing and will give up. Not sure about spuds, but I always nip the flowers of before they even set the fruit.

I've done the necessary - caned x3 in each bag and tied up as far up as needed and by God does it look tidier!!! - Hopefully the crop is thriving down below!!!
