  • Is it too late to plant seed potatoes?

    Hi,

I've been given a box of earlies, 2nd earlies and maincrops of several varieties. Is is too late to plant them?

If I store them in a cool dark place can I plant them in the Autumn?

    Any advice welcome, thank you

10 - 12 weeks in the ground for earlies, 13 weeks or so for second earlies, and between 15 to 20 weeks for maincrops. Planting in the autumn is ok if you can protect from frost for the full duration which is difficult unless they're in moveable containers.
Plant em now, and keep some fleece handy for the maincrops last few weeks?

Watch out for blight though, the later you plant them the higher the risk.

I finished planting out main crop just a this week, so I hope they will be ok, not to sure but I would say a tad too late for the others - but I don't think they will stand over to next year, if I was you and had the space I would plant them and then they have two chances to grow or not to grow.
No dought someone with more experence will give you the actual reasons for what to do or not as the case may be.
