See, I always view it from the direction they are going...ie they are travelling up from the ground sprialing clockwise round they cane....and no they don't go the other way in the summer hemisphere.

Is it clematis and morning glory that wind the same way and honeysuckle the other? can't remember.

Funny how they can't seem to work it out at first...or more annoyingly climb up the wrong stick.

Both French and Runner beans will climb up canes , twisting in an anti-clockwise direction - makes no difference where you are looking at it from !
Don't try and force them to go clockwise, it just isn't natural !

Can you still buy the little green plastic 'open rings'. I bought a few packs of these years ago and still use them for 'tying' tomatoes and beans etc to canes. If the canes are too fat for the ring to go around the cane and plant, I link one ring through another. One ring goes around the cane and the other around the plant.

With beans, as long as the stem is kept close to the cane it will find it's own way up.

Anti- clockwise? Think of the cane as a roundabout. The beans are French!! They go in a different direction to us............

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

I like that one! I knew they went anti-clockwise but that's a great explanation!

I'm dizzy, but I'm going out see which way they are getting up the cane.

                yep, mine grow anti-clockwise too.
If I try and force them clockwise, they keep falling off the canes
