I got the July magazine today, with two lots of free seeds. I'd love to use them, but I haven't got any more beds. I could possibly dig a new bed, but I can't dig a new bed every time I get some free seeds. There seems, atm, to be plenty of space between my broad bean plants ('The Sutton'), so I thought of putting the radishes in there. As for the lettuces - gawd knows. What do other grapes do?

I plant lettuces into a seed tray then as they get bigger I pop them into any little gaps I see. At the moment I have lettuces growing in between my sweetcorn, brassicas and on the edges of some of the other beds. I've also planted a row of radishes down the middle of my runner beans, and dotted around courgettes, I've also popped in some extra beetroot rows between the potatoes,. I just pull them up as I need them to make more space. I figure that by the time the main plants need the soil these little salads will have all been scoffed long ago.

Most free seeds we get are generally put aside for the following year as we've planned and bought what we wanted in the late winter/early spring
Although it's always fantastic to get free seeds- it's a pity they don't arrive earlier in the year!!!!!
Having said that there's aways room for radish- and lettuce tend to be sown a few weeks apart to keep the supply going ...can you sow a few now to replace the lettuce you are going to eat????
Failing that- tubs/old pots/old washing up bowls- anything cheap from a car boot sale????"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple
Location....Normandy France

Thanx for the tips, all. Yes, it did occur to me after posting that I could hang on to them till next year. However, I think I'll bung the radishes in amongst the broad beans, and, as Idiegox suggested, sow the lettuces in seed trays, then transplant them wherever there's a spare spot.
Sarz - although Skipton is in God's own county, and a beautiful part of it at that, I ain't going all the way up there from Hertfordshire just to sow a few radishes and lettuces - sorry!

I sowed the lettuces in a big seed tray that's deep enough to home them I might transplant in and around other bits when thinning them though. I'm gonna sow the radishes when my Swift tatties leave the bags as a follow on. I intend to put carrots and mooli in the later tattie bagsHayley B

Jumping in to say thanks for the tips - I've got space between my broad bean rows, so I'll make use of that for some more radishes.
