Can anyone identify this?

Hi,

I know this isn't a vegetable so strictly speaking I'm probably posting in the wrong place .... but can anyone identify this weed? Is it ground elder? if so. what do I do about it?

Looks a lot like it. If someone else confirms it then you have to dig it out (usually not too deep) but you must not leave any bits of root in. A strong systemic weedkiller would also get rid of it but you will have to watch for ages. It's a pig.

Not sure is it a type of mint?? rub the leaf and have a smell
Their a great bunch of grapes on this vine

It dose look like ground elder, sorry mate you'll have to dig up as much as you can, then treat the rest with a systemic weed killer, it's part of the carrot family so it'll be deep rooted, its a very invasive weed, GOOD LUCK..

It's Silver Weed, Potentilla anserina.

The flowers of silverweed are very like those of a strawberry plant in shape, but buttercup yellow in colour. Silverweed is stoloniferous, which means that one of the ways it reproduces itself is by creeping across the soil and rooting from its stem in the same manner as a strawberry reproduces through runners.

So you should be able to dig it all out if required, if non-organic a drop of any Systemic Weed killer will see it off.

I think the root is edible, aparrently tastes like Parsnips?

Not sure that it is Ground Elder... but we have that sprouting everywhere in garden. it spreads underground then pops up to say hello!

It's about 18" high in my garden

I think Nicos has it. I have greater burnet in my garden. Beautiful statuesque plant with deep red flowers that look like mini fir cones. Fantastic in a mixed cut flowers bunch.

I've got ground elder, silverweed and salad burnett - My vote is for salad burnett!

You can infuse the leaves to make a cooling wash for sunburn (or if you're in Devon at the moment you can just stand outside for a good drenching!)
